Welcome to Anesthesia & Sleep Medicine Services of Florida!

Sleep quality is measured by its efficiency and sleep duration. Good sleep has been shown to have a significant impact on your metabolism, neurologic wellbeing and restoration of the immune system. Sleep loss can result from many different types of sleep disorders. Over time, a sleep deficit can lead to reduced attention, poor executive function, difficulties coordinating newly learned skills and mood decline. Sleepiness and fatigue are implicated as a key risk factor in over half of all fatal auto-accidents involving trucks. More than 80 different types of sleep disorders are currently defined. In 2009 the National Sleep Foundation reported that 46% of people reported inadequate sleep. Obstructive sleep apnea (OSA), was first published in the medical literature in 1965. Extensive research has since been conducted on sleep disordered breathing. Recent data indicates that OSA may affect up to 34% of men and 17% of women in the United States. We know now that Age, gender, body mass index (BMI), and race are important factors that predispose patients to OSA. Dr. Phillip Nye received his fellowship training in sleep medicine at Eastern Virginia Medical School. He is qualified to diagnose and treat all sleep disorders in both adults and children. In addition to practicing sleep medicine, Dr. Nye is double board certified in both sleep medicine and anesthesia with the American Board of Anesthesia.
